3-Story, 1-Bedroom Apartment on Wheels: Bid on This International GXV Pangea 4×4

CAMPING GEAR

If you’re looking for a house on wheels that has it all, this just might be it. Global Expedition Vehicles (GXV) built this 2008 International 7300 4×4 chassis with a Pangea camper and a host of upgrades for off-the-beaten-path adventures.

This overland expedition vehicle is being offered at auction now, on dealer consignment, on Bring-a-Trailer. It shows just 16,000 miles on the odometer. This vehicle started at $650,000 when offered new. You can place your bids now through Friday, August 30, at 10:11 a.m. PDT.

The basis for this overland expedition camper is a 2008 International 4×4 chassis. Like most big industrial trucks, this beast rides on leaf springs and solid axles, which are fitted with huge 395/85 Michelin X tires. It is powered by a massive 7.6L turbo-diesel backed by an Allison six-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a locking rear differential.

The truck has also been upgraded with dual spares, a roof-rack basket with driving lights, area lighting, as well as a front bumper with winch.

Inside the extended-cab are basic two-tone gray vinyl captain’s chairs. Behind those are small two individual rear seats that flank the pass-through to the camper.

The GXV camper box is made of composite panels with aluminum reinforcements. It is a pop-up design, which displays fun surprise graphics when popped up — which could easily be changed with some new vinyl to your own tastes.

When popped, the camper is three stories high. On the first floor is a ton of storage cabinets, a full kitchen, and a full bathroom. The second floor is a massive wrap-around dinette that can be converted into a bed.

Up top, up a spiral staircase, is the bedroom with king-sized bed. The camper is also fully usable with the top down, as only the headroom of the dinette and the upper bedroom are affected by the lift mechanism.

Some highlights of the living quarters are AC, Armor Vision hinged windows with shades, Fagor induction cooktop, flat-screen TVs with satellite receiver, a 6,000W Cummins generator, and a large lithium battery bank. If you need even more storage, there is a shelving unit that slides into the shower area for times when the shower is not in use.

Inside the camper there isn’t much in the way of decor, but it is a clean-looking blank slate to work with to make it your own.
