Limited-Edition Bling Van Life: Airstream Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition

CAMPING GEAR

Only about a year ago, Airstream launched its most compact and rugged touring coach yet, the Interstate 19X. It is based on a diesel AWD Mercedes Sprinter van chassis and designed to live the van life off pavement as much as on.

Today, at Overland Expo Mountain West, Airstream launched the limited-edition Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition. Think of this new camper van model as the compact, off-road model with all the bling. It has loads of off-road driving lights, multicolor underglow, an outdoor hammock chair mount, a robust audio system with light-up speakers, and more.

Of course, the Airstream Interstate 19X has all the comforts of home: heat, AC, fridge, stovetop, sink, full bathroom, comfy bed, indoor seating, and more. It also has off-road chops with its diesel engine torque, undercoated lower body and hood, and off-road lighting. The LE Outland Edition of the camper van adds to that with some sporty looks, more useable outdoor living space, and a very cool, super-configurable bed system.

All the Bling

The bling starts with replacing the black wheels with 18-inch polished face ones, still wrapped in all-terrain tires.

This limited-edition Airstream can then be optioned with a vinyl wrap that mimics the look of the classic riveted aluminum exterior that the company is known for. Yes, the fake rivet look can be yours from the factory, for an additional cost.

The interior is brightened up with dark gray Simtex-carbon seating with red accents, which are carried throughout the cabin. Bright oak and steel mesh laminates are used on the hard surfaces, while riveted aluminum accents in the bathroom provide that signature Airstream look.

Lighting is really what gives this camper van its bling. The off-road lighting on the front of the van has been further upgraded over the standard Interstate 19X model, with two 6-inch hood vent LEDs and off-road lights taking the place of the fogs. The van even gets underglow, with dimmable and color-changeable LEDs. Similar interior lighting helps you dial in the perfect mood.

Continuing the lighting bling are four 8-inch REV Black V2 speakers with colored lighting in the back of the van. They are part of an upgraded sound system featuring a Sony DSX-GS80 digital media receiver and a 400W subwoofer.

More Outdoor Living Space

The van is also upgraded with a few features that make outdoor living areas around the van all that much more usable. First up is a 270-degree Batwing awning with integrated LED lighting. There is also an exterior table and a Dometic CFX3 fridge that can be accessed from inside and outside of the camper.

A hanging hammock chair mount in the rear of the camper is also a slick new addition to this camper van, and brings us to the rad new bed system.

Impressive Bed

The Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition has a three-position full-size platform bed with a removable headboard. The setup allows for sleeping inside the van out of the weather or outside under the stars. It also slides forward enough inside the van to create tall gear storage in the back of the van when needed. It is also easily removable, opening up the van’s interior a bit for transporting big gear.

Only 30 Airstream Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition vans will be manufactured. Airstream dealers nationwide are taking orders now.

I couldn’t get a price out of Airstream but will update this post when I have it. The standard Interstate 19X starts at $199,940, so this limited-edition van will no doubt be well over the $200K mark.
