Today, Potawatomi State Park in Wisconsin’s Door County is even more fun to visit than it is to say. As the gateway to Door County it features all the activities and amenities you’d expect from a state park and then some.
The family campground has 123 sites, 40 of which have electrical hook-ups. Reservations are accepted during the peak camping months, but some sites are maintained for winter recreation as well. There are also four group campsites that can accommodate up to 36 people each.
Potawatomi State Park features four hiking trails and an 8-mile mountain bike trail. Most notably, Potawatomi State Park is the eastern terminus of the 1,000-plus mile Ice Age Hiking Trail that winds across Wisconsin all the way from the St. Croix River on the state’s western border. Day trips or extended hikes can begin or end at Potawatomi.
Additionally, the park offers spectacular fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. It’s a great place to stay as a base camp for exploration of nearby Sturgeon Bay and all of the Door Peninsula as it was for the 50 Campfires crew on the Lake Michigan Shores Field Trip.
