Built for the Wild: The Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge

In this article we are taking a look rifle built to withstand any environmental condition you can throw at it,  the Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge Edition.

In the world of hunting, Bergara is well know for their accuracy and dependability. The company is a relative new comer in the world of European rifle makers, founded just a short 15 years ago in Spain. Named after the town it calls home, they began their journey producing high quality precision barrels for rifle manufacturers around the world. As word of their accuracy and quality spread, they entered in to the world of hand crafted rifles. As a company that made a name for themselves on barrels alone, they have a unique perspective regarding what it takes to make an incredibly durable and accurate rifle.

The original Bergara B-14 helped them break in to the world of hunting and now, Bergara has introduced their Wilderness series which aims to take what they learned and make an even more dependable rifle. The B-14 Wilderness series of rifles comes in 4 styles, but the one we are taking a look at today is the B-14 Wilderness Ridge. What sets B-14 wilderness apart from the other standard B-14’s is the custom cerekote finish on the barrel and action as well as the hand painted synthetic stock. The result is a rifle that not only looks incredible but, is also built to withstand extreme conditions.

If you aren’t familiar with cerakote finishes, you could relate them to a lacquer finish on woodwork that will be used outdoors. When you apply a cerekote finish to a firearm, you are sealing, and if so desired staining, your metal components to keep the elements from causing damage. The result is a firearm that will endure harsher elements and stay in top working condition longer than a blued barrel.

I was able to use the Bergara B-14 on a Red Stag hunt in Southeast Texas where we culled six cows for a friend who runs an exotic hunting ranch. Not only did I find the Bergara B-14 to be an accurate and capable rifle, but it was light weight and very appealing to the eye.
