Survival: Make Oil from Fish Guts at Home

OUTDOORS
We show you how we make oil from fish guts. It’s a great survival skill to know, and it makes use of what might be a waste product. Imagine you catch your fish, eat it, but then throw away the entrails? These are useful for survival. Get a fire going, boil the entrails for 30 minutes, then filter the oil into a separate pan, and boil again for 10 minutes. Let it cool and bam! You have oil which can be used to make a lantern, candle etc or you can even put it on your metal knives, axes and tools to prevent them from rusting. Our ancestors used this method hundreds of years ago, and it is still used by tribes today. The Inuit refine oil from whale meat and use it for lanterns, and for survival food. It needs to be an oily fish, such as Trout, Salmon, Mackerel or Smelt. You can make this oil with not tools, all you need is a heat source and metal container to boil it.

There are many uses, we hope you enjoyed the video and be sure to subscribe for more bushcraft and survival skills.
